RAGNAR AXELSSON
WHERE THE WORLD IS MELTING

up

PHOXXI 1 March — 2 March 2023

The first retrospective of the important Icelandic photographer Ragnar Axelsson (born 1958) focuses on the changes in the physical and traditional reality of the North. For over 40 years Axelsson has photographed people, animals and landscapes in the remotest regions of Greenland, Iceland and Siberia. In stark black and white images, he captures the elemental human experience in nature at the edge of the habitable world.

Axelsson makes visible the extraordinary relationships between people, animals, and places in the Arctic and their extreme environment - relationships that are changing in profound and complex ways due to unprecedented climate change.

The exhibition is composed of the Faces of the North, Glacier, Last Days of the Arctic, and Arctic Heroes series.
